"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within." - Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, Psychiatrist
(As quoted in The Leader's Digest: Timeless Principles for Team and Organization (2003) by Jim Clemmer, p.84)
Michelle Chan (MFA) uses splashes of exuberant colors and music to explore and express the felt sense and the myriad intricate emotions and feelings underlying various aspects and moments of human experience and psychology, including relationships with the self, others and the environment, resilience, love, and hope. Michelle, a clinical psychologist, specializes in applying the mind-body awareness processes of Mindfulness & Focusing to her Fine Art Practice. She looks inwards into her subjective, internal reality and translates her personal authentic experiences of being and presence into formal visual elements and music. It is the artist’s passionate wish to invite viewers to pause, sense and reflect, in order to experience a mental dialogue with her paintings at a personal affective as well as conceptual and aesthetic levels. She hopes that her artistic creations can serve as a media to facilitate people to better connect to their inner worlds and to bring in fresh perspectives to experience life.
